Hey friends! We’re wrapping up the first week of the US Open and heading to the Round of 16 today. Here are some highlights from the first week of women’s tennis at the US Open. Jessica Pegula on pointJessica Pegula stays sharp in week 1 and is smoothly advancing through the quarter-finals. So far, in the past three matches, she hasn’t lost a single set. I enjoy watching her play, as she remains calm and collected on the court. Janice Tjen Makes historyJanice Tjen, the emerging Indonesian tennis star, has made history as the first Indonesian to win a Grand Slam match. Watch the video yourself to see if she plays like the former world No.1 Ash Barty. LOOK AT THOSE SLICES!!!! Her debut run ended in the second round against Emma Raducanu, but I think it's a great start and a successful tournament for her. Alex Eala’s Resilient RunAnother historic moment! Remember Alex Eala? The one who trained at Nadal’s Tennis Academy and made her breakthrough by defeating three Grand Slam champions as a wild card at the Miami Open this March. She is back again. This week, she won in the first round of the US Open—becoming the first Filipina to win in the main draw of a Grand Slam. She showed her resilience during the match by coming back from 1-5 down in the final set! Although her run at the US Open this year was cut short in the second round, losing to Cristina Bucșa, she made a statement to the tennis world that she’s here to stay! I can’t wait to see her grow and win more trophies in the future!
Drama at the NetTaylor Townsend and Jelena Ostapenko’s argument at the end of the match, when they shook hands, turned into finger-pointing and harsh words from Ostapenko.
🔥🔥🔥 Let’s begin with this: no matter the situation, you shouldn’t point at others’ faces and call them out for lacking class or education. That’s disgraceful, and disrespectful. However, Taylor Townsend handled it perfectly in this difficult situation. I became a fan of hers immediately after seeing the incident. Taylor Townsend deserves more recognition and respect! Watch Taylor’s press conference. Townsend Keeps RollingTaylor Townsend continues her run at the US Open this year, reaching the Round of 16 after defeating Mirra Andreeva. With her excellent movement, strong net play, and the crowd’s support, she dominated her opponent throughout the match. She will face two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejčíková in the next round. Runs That Stopped HerePaolini and Navarro’s single run was halted in the third round this year at the US Open. Big Names March OnSwiatek, Sabalenka, Gauff, Osaka, and Anisimova continue to advance into the Round of 16. Venus & Leylah: Doubles DelightVenus Williams and Leylah Fernandez reach the third round of women’s doubles. It’s incredible to see Venus Williams still fighting. They received a wild-card entry this year and had never played together before this week. AMAZING! Round of 16 Matches to WatchSome highly anticipated and exciting matches to watch... Coco Gauff vs Naomi Osaka
Markéta Vondroušová vs Elena Rybakina
Barbora Krejčíková vs Taylor Townsend
